Genrespop music, sentimental ballad
"Crazy for You" is a song by American singer Madonna from the soundtrack to the 1985 film Vision Quest. Written by John Bettis and Jon Lind, it was produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez and released as a single by Geffen Records on March 2, 1985. The song was commissioned by Warner Bros. Pictures music executive Joel Sill for a romantic scene in the film, in which Madonna also makes a brief appearance as a nightclub singer. Although accounts differ as to who proposed Madonna for the recording, her selection initially surprised Bettis and Lind, who questioned whether the dance-pop singer could perform a ballad. Originally recorded in 1983 under the supervision of Phil Ramone, "Crazy for You" was subsequently re-recorded by Benitez, with an orchestral-style arrangement by Rob Mounsey. Its release prompted a dispute between Warner Bros. Records and Warner Bros. Pictures, as record executives feared it would compete with Madonna's second studio album, Like a Virgin (1984). A pop ballad with torch song influences, the song marked a departure from Madonna's earlier dance-oriented material, with lyrics exploring romantic attraction and sexual desire.
